Title: Audio Equipment Storage Area... basement OR 2nd floor?
Post by: gdv on June 22, 2017, 12:18:04 PM
I, like most of you have accumulated various audio gear over the years...

I know some of you have your garages FULL of stuff!  :)  I have my "stuff" basically in two locations...  One room in my basement & one room on my 2nd floor...  I would like to consolidate to ONE area...

Basement Issues - dampness/dust/etc.
2nd floor Issues - hot/cold/etc.

Which is the lesser of the evils?  I am leaning toward the 2nd floor...  Appropriate comments welcome!!!   ;)

Thank you,
George

George-I agree with the second floor; water/dampness destroys electronics.  That said how hot/cold is the second floor?  Below freezing is not good.

Dry over damp....  but if your talking big swings from freezing or lower up to sweltering (with humidity?) in the summer, neither option is great.

Components get much hotter in use than they will get even in the warmest attic.   I definitely say dampness is worse than heat.   Now for records, that is a different story.

Dehumifiers work great to keep basements dry.
