Title: HPB coupon week
Post by: Sir Thrift-a-Lot on November 13, 2017, 07:01:43 PM
I love coupon week at Half Price books.   For the uninitiated, you sign up for their mailing list and they send you a weeks worth of coupons, starting at 20% off a single item and going up to 50% on the last day.   This year, I did all vinyl...

Monday - The second Glass Harp album (I recently got a nice copy of the first from JimPittsburgh, thanks again Jim) - marked $3.99 - 20% was $3.20
Tuesday - didn't make it to a store
Wednesday - Turtles - Battle of the Bands marked $5.99 - 30% was $4.20
Thursday - The Beat Farmers second album marked $7.99 - 30% was $5.60
Friday - The Clash first album, still sealed 2013 Epic reissue, was $24.99 marked down to $9.99 - 40% was $5.99
Saturday - Avett Bros Emotionalism still sealed, was $24.99 marked down to $14.99 - 40% was $8.99
Sunday - James Brown Ski Party (King black label) marked $19.99 (a bargain at that price) - 50% was $9.99

Lots of good music cheap.   I like that.

Hey Mark,

Nice pickups.  I am guessing the Clash is the USA version, with 'Hammersmith Palais" on it?

Though I have never had much luck there, I was planning to hit the Monroeville HPB with a 40 or 50% coupon,  but got tied up with several estate sales Saturday and Sunday.  Found some cheap (as in $1 each) vinyl including some Coltrane on Impulse, two "The Three Sounds" mono Blue Notes with 'the ear', some Julie London, Donald Fagan 'the Nightfly"  and in honor of the recent Dylan show, I had to buy the 6 LP Sinatra set, 'The Voice -1943-1952 - The Columbia Years".    Also found a Huey 'Piano" Smith on Ace.

Oddly, no.

The Bethel Park store hasn't had a great selection lately. Lots of EU crap pressings in great abundance. i settled on Led Zeppelin III deluxe, already have 3-4 copies but have been searching for a clean quiet copy. Also got a German reissue Doors Morrison Hotel. Of the two the Doors record wins by a mile.

German pressings are usually pretty good.   Like German cars I guess.

Is Bethel Park putting out cards for the new releases rather than putting the vinyl out?   On the one hand, I like that because they can fit twice as much stuff.   OTOH, you have to ask for the record to see if it is a legit version or one of those EU grey market jobbers you mentioned.

As far as I'm aware everything is out in the BP store. Unlike Monroeville, BP puts the "expensive" records in an open box on the counter as opposed to the lock box Monroeville uses. Haven't been to the Monroeville store in about a year, but they definitely seemed to have more selection the last time I was there.

Yeah, enough new, sealed stuff that I was able to find two titles that I was happy to have.
