A few people suggested it, but nobody did it, so I'm going to.

With no dust cover and what appears to be a few scratches, I don't think this is a buy, but it's supposedly a great table.

My guess is somebody will pay that just for the furniture or art aspect.   As electronics they would need to take a zero off, but if they are patient I bet they get their asking price.

Is it probable we may have to do w/o the shoutbox permanently - will keep you posted.  It consumes a lot of CPU power and paying for a higher level of hosting service is not practical.   This thread does a decent job in the meantime - methinks.  Will continue monitoring for options,  and Al may still turn it on for testing at some point.  Regards, OBG.

Perhaps we could start a new monthly 'shoutbox thread' to make searching a little easier.

Perhaps we could start a new monthly 'shoutbox thread' to make searching a little easier.

That sounds good now, but after a while I think having many threads will actually be worse.   Asfar as searching goes, the "real" shoutbox actually purged itself, so even just one thread will be better in that regard.

Mine.   It came on a used TV I just bought.   I reused the stationary one I had.   Using a mount that allows Jerome to yank the TV from the wall then slam it back into the wall again would be a classically bad idea, but it's a really nice mount.

God I hate wanks like that guy.   He ignores the history filter.   In 1968, when Pepper got it's best album Grammy, three of the other nominees were Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe, Ed Ames - My Cup Runneth Over, Vikki Carr - It Must Be Him.   Are those albums any worse than the vacuous pop of today?   Is his "millennial woo" any different than the "Yeah, Yeah , Yeah" of the mid 60s?   Three guys wrote almost all of the great Motown hits.   Everything this fool is saying has been true for every era.   I wish he would shut his stupid pie hole.

Don't dis Ed Ames.  Wasn't he in the Ames Brothers, played Mingo with Fess Parker on "Dan'l Boone" and his axmanship was  a perennial highlight on the Tonight Show anniversary clips?    Whats a guy gottta do???

I passed on these at the Edgewood HH store, at least I think it's the same pair.   Of course, I would have had to strip and refinish them before I could in good conscience ask that kind of money for them.   IMHO they are $25 speakers in their current state.

Yeah, somebody here said they were looking for a pair. but I didn't pull the grills in store and see the tweeters gone.   That's way too much money for those in that condition.   I passed on them simply because I didn't want to strip them down.

I didn't want to strip them down either, so listed them for half of what I sold my other pair for.  They do have the tweeters and sound great. I have had a couple offers on them but no one has pulled the trigger yet.
I would guess the previous owner was that rare bird, a picky audiophile, and put cotton over the tweeter to make them less bright.   But that's just a wild guess.

Well, if they don't sell, I can hook them up to one of my five tvs while watching some baseball. :)

Planned to sit down and spin a few sides tonight. Nope, as I was coming down the steps I saw a huge pond forming in the basement. Three hours later I'm still cleaning up water and moving stuff around. Luckily no equipment or other serious damage...yet. Won't know about the floor until it dries a bit. At one point the water was rippling in the basement door about 2 inches high, every towel in the house wasn't enough. In the 11 yrs we've been in this house I never saw a heavier rain. Tomorrow I'll be ordering the $100 each speaker wire risers  >:D

Actually, I hear you get richer tone if you fully submerge the speaker wire.   I wouldn't change a thing.

There was some water in my basement and garage tonight as well, though thankfully only little "streams" (more like trickles).   No "ponding" in the basement, but that happens a lot in the front edge of the garage.   I'll just sweep it out tomorrow.

That’s a bummer! What are these $100 risers you are talking about?

Adds 20 watts. Those weren’t the exact ones I had in mind, but the Music Direct catalogs has lots of that kind of stuff. I’m going to go with a couple 2x4 pieces to get the isobars off the floor, but that’s more a safety concern than anything else

Driving around today I feel worse for others. We live maybe 1.5 miles from the Trolley Stop that made national news with people standing on tables and cars floating around. Within a mile of that I saw a few cars beached on higher ground. And whole basement in driveways.  Been there 12 years ago with 2.5 feet of water in a basement and a car floating in the garage not fun, but it’s just stuff.

Their equipment of the era was really really good, clean and musical. I had the pre-amp and DC-15? amp for a number of years and was very happy with them. I have heard that receiver in my friends shop back in the day lol... very nice.... sound was less Yamaha and more Sansui, if that helps.

Oh, and it's coupon week at HPB too.

Don't know if it's just the Bethel Park store, I've walked out of there empty handed three times in a row now. Once with a 50% off coupon. Lots of EU pressed garbage and tons of Commodores and Diana Ross junk. They do have a Mofi Dark Side of the Moon - $100. That would be a good snag at 30-40% off.

A Wally Capitol sounds better for far less money.   Just ask Pepe.

I generally use my 50% off for some new release that I want.   The Monroeville story usually has at least a couple dozen recent major label releases mixed in with the plentiful Doxy garbage.

Well, as some sort of Karmic retribution for missing vinylpalooza this weekend, I stopped at a thrift out here today and got a Yamaha RX-595 and a clean copy of Jimmy Reed - Big Boss Man.   I couldn't fully test the receiver, but I did hear the repay click and all of the logic functions worked, so I am optimistic.   This will be my first two channel piece with a remote.   I just wish it had a mono button, but t should be a handy replacement for my system while I recap the 2230.   $15 for the Yammie and $2 for the record.

stopped at HPB here in the south hills today....  I was floored by their crazy inflated prices. I checked a few jazz albums I had some interest in against Discogs, and HPBs price was exactly equal to the highest asking price listed on Discogs for those albums regardless of condition.... walked out empty handed. That's the last time I will ever stop in there for albums.

I stop by there occasionally but other than Japanese reissue Jazz Messengers LP, never had luck finding any real deals.  I'd assume during the coupon sale week, pickings are even slimmer.  Not surprised at the pricing but assuming they don't sell the top priced records very quickly.  In the end, it's business and they'd probably consider offers.  Never hurts to ask.
Title: Re: Temporary shout box.
Post by: Sir Thrift-a-Lot on July 14, 2018, 09:40:24 PM
I just got back from HPB.   I picked up the latest First Aid Kit album for $12 with my 40% off, and had them hold the recent reissue of U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind (originally on vinyl only in Europe).   At half off that one will be $12.50.

They have a sealed copy of the 200 gram Discipline Global reissue of King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King for $25, so it will be an absolute steal at $12.50.   That's the one that Fripp rejected like a dozen stampers before he finally approved one.   If I hadn't picked it up two years ago I would have been all over it.   That pressing smokes any original Atlantic that I have heard, and I usually favor first pressings.   They really got that one right.   If you don't have it, you should go get it tomorrow.
Title: Re: Temporary shout box.
Post by: scorpio333 on July 14, 2018, 10:00:53 PM
That King Crimson is a steal and like you said the best press to get. Not going to Monroeville to get it though!

I second Jim’s opinion of the Bethel store. I need to go to Home Depot tomorrow, so I feel obligated to go. Hopefully they have a newer release to grab,  it lately they e been very thin on that front. All Doxy and other EU garbage.

One user on Hoffman says the blue vinyl from vinyl vault is horrible. I don’t have any experience with that label. The few new Who records I have are all lacking in quality.

I went to HPB this morning and the only thing I could find was Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats.

Sorry to hear the news about more water.  Are you considering a permanent fix, such as French drain/trench around the house?   In order to sell our previous house, we had French drains installed under the basement floor.  Getting a good price for a house with a water issue is tough.

Of course, after we did it, we thought "Why did we live with it like that so long and then fix it for the next couple moving in???"

10 years and never had a drop of water come in, got a new driveway last fall...4 times the water has come in. Sometimes a puddle, twice a stream. I'm working on a theory that when they replaced the storm drain pipe under the driveway they didn't fix it correctly. Once I find the point of entry, then I can hopefully fix it.

Just got back from the "Wheels of Soul" show.   Marcus King Band were smokin' but their setlist was (by necessity I suppose) too short.   Only about a half hour.   Drive By Truckers seem to me to have lost a step.   They were good, but not as good as I had hoped.   Tedeschi/Trucks band were great.   They didn't play one song that I was hoping for, but they played a few that I never saw coming and thoroughly enjoyed.   Highlights for me were a couple of covers.   Taj Mahal's "Chevrolet" and Leon Russell "A Song for You".   Really enjoyed it.

Good seeing you at the thrift Monday.

Where was the concert?

Always good to see you Mark!  Did you get an air conditioner?

I did.   I had to go to the Waterfront store to get it though.   Monroeville's inventory said "six in stock" but nobody could produce one for me.   This is by far the quietest A/C unit I've heard short of a ductless mini split (or whole house, of course).

Did you find any gems in that pile of records?

Anyone else catch Chuck Prophet and the Mission Express last night at Saint Claire park in Greensburg?  He put on a great show, despite the intermittent rain during the first set. Lots of great songs and guitar work.

A working unit sold for $35 on eBay.   Average for a working unit seems to be around what he is asking for his broken one.   Maybe someone will buy it, but I certainly wouldn't.

I have a 6600 and it works, but I’ll be damned if I can’t get the scratchiness out of the knobs. It sits waiting for repair.

I believe the wood side sell for about $100, haven’t looked in a long time.

I just pulled about 40 Jazz records out of a real nice pile of a couple hundred at the Goodwill on Route 51 a couple miles south of the Liberty tunnel. I didn't have time to do valuations on that many, and I'm not as versed in jazz as I am in some other genres, so I may have left some gems behind. I didn't get any miles for Coltrane or anything like that but I got some Shirley horn and Lena Horne some very very clean Old Duke Ellington. If you are into jazz and in the area, you may want to stop by.

I don't think there were any, but I took quite a few Pablos (including a couple beautiful Milt Jackson albums) and a couple Riversides.   There were a few from labels that I'd never heard of.   I grabbed those to further my jazz education.

Well, there are services that search every US CL site for more unusual keywords.   Someone who is desperately looking for those might find them just as easily as they would on eBay or Audiogon.   But that particular ad has been up for months.   It was discussed on AK some time ago.   It may be that nobody is desperately looking for those.

It's a trap!!! I looked at the pics real close and even if you want to combine the two for one working table, you'll still need $50 in parts - cartridge sled, center spindle. With the one having tonearm wires pulled out and the transport screw facing the wrong way - consider that table destroyed. I'll also bet the dearings (allows the tonearm to rise and lower) are shot, those are tough to swap out. I'd only consider those for parts.

I heard the name Black Moth Super Rainbow and had to youtube it, this was the 1st comment:

"I ordered the pre-release of the vinyl album and when I first played it, I was thinking to myself.. Wow.. this album is deep, very slow, and euphoric. I was totally digging it and listened to the whole thing. Finally, "Mr. No One" comes on at the end and it was the only song that I recognized because it was the only one that I found leaked prior to the release of the album. I thought to myself, "WOW they made a slowed down version for the album!!.. This is amazing!".... Then I looked at my record player and saw the button for 33rpm/45rpm and I was like sshiiiiiiiiiiittt... now I have A SECOND ALBUM TO LISTEN TO!!!!! LOL"

This has happened to me a few times and a friend has been a victim multiple times. Congress should pass a law that any 12" that is not 33 1/3 should have a clear, distinct 45RPM on the cover. I'm calling Tipper Gore.

Dolly Parton turned into Ray LaMontagne, and it is AMAZING.   It shows how great she is and how on point the band was.   This is before MIDI or Autotune, of course.

Down on the North Shore, a bit further past the stadiums. I haven’t been to the store yet, I visited before they set it up. Nice people who love music. They had shelves and shelves of brand new records. At the time they were selling on Discogs, but would allow you to come pick up your order and browse. I need to go check out the store sometime soon.

I planned to stop there last record store day but think they weren't open for a few more hours.  Will have to remember next time I'm heading to Phils TV.

In other news, I picked up very nice copies of "Miles in the Sky" and "Nefertiti"yesterday.  First pressings, I believe, for a tenner. I don't have much of the Second Classic Quartet on vinyl, so that was nice.

It's a bad input on the Refurb Onkyo.   Since the Blu-Ray was working correctly, I decided to just move that cable from the back of the BluRay to the back of the cable box.   That worked perfectly.   So I then thought that perhaps both of the cables I had been using were bad.   So after that worked for a half hour, I moved the working cable box cable from the Blu-Ray input to the cable input, and it immediately started glitching again.

I had heard from everyone (including a few people here) that Accessories4Less was a great company, but this went exactly how I feared buying a refurb would.   Now to see how great they are about taking care of it.

Sorry for the bad experience Mark, it is not fun when that happens.  The problem is also that nowadays Onkyo's A stock is B stock quality, so you are really buying C stock  :(.

It sounds wonderful.   It's doing exactly what I had hoped it would do, giving the Rock Solids that bit of top end sparkle that was missing.   It sounds better than the Denon it's replacing, which is almost too bad because if it didn't I'd just tell them to cram it.

Well, they told me that the replacement unit would only have 30 days exchange from the time that I purchased the first one.   I think that's garbage.   It feels like they are trying to bully me into having to deal with Onkyo rather than them.   They said if I did an "advanced buy" I would have a new 30 days and they would refund the old one.   Like I have another $300 laying around.   I'm very frustrated.

In the email they gave me instructions on how to do a full factory reset and asked me to do that before sending it back.   I was very skeptical, but it seems to have done the trick.   Whatever ghost there was in the machine seems to have been exorcised.   I have until Sep 3 to see if it acts up.

I’m comfortable buying Apple refurbs directly from Apple, because I know they go over each unit before  selling them. It’s like getting a free QA check at a discount. I e never had an issue with one and we have many.

Not liking the fact YOU had to do the factory reset, you should have received it that way. Glad it seems to be working now. The return policy doesn’t seem as friendly as other retailers, most seem to go out of their way nowadays to make happy customers which in turn equals a possible return customer. Crappy returns equal shopping somewhere else for me.

That was my thinking as well.   Why wouldn't that be the last stage of "refurbing" before they test?   I actually believe that nobody tests anything anymore because tech time is more expensive than postage.   We are all "Inspector #9".   Other than that glitch, though, I really love everything about the receiver.   The style, the sound, the functionality.   In use, it runs rings around the Denon it is replacing.

I have firsthand experience with this, I was a software test engineer. Was on a good path starting at the bottom and ending at managing the office. Recession + your statement = no job. Outsourcing was a big part as well. As for QA and testing, it's the 1st thing to get slashed in the budget. We'll let the customer test it and then we'll provide "updates" as we go. That's crap. Think of that the next time you get in a jet, are we beta testers here or are all the bugs worked out. It's all a vicious circle, the customer shouldn't be the tester but we are now.

It sounds wonderful.   It's doing exactly what I had hoped it would do, giving the Rock Solids that bit of top end sparkle that was missing.   It sounds better than the Denon it's replacing, which is almost too bad because if it didn't I'd just tell them to cram it.

Your setup sounded amazingly good w the Denon,  if the Onkyo improves on that it is a great addition.  Lok forward to checking it out someday!

Beauty is in the ear of the beholder.   Plus, this time you will be actually expecting something.   I'm pretty sure last time you were just humoring me, at least until the first few notes of "Babylon Sisters", then you went slack jawed for a second.   That was deeply satisfying.  :-*

The good news: At the thrift today I found two minty 70s MFSLs.   The bad news: they are Kenny Rogers and Melissa Manchester.   Oh well, it was still kind of exciting to find them in the wild.   I had always hoped that when I had the chance to directly compare a Wally Traugaut "Mastered by Capitol Wally" with a "SR/2" Stan Ricker half speed mastered MFSL, it would be on DSOTM or Abbey Road, but I guess "The Gambler" isn't the worst album ever made.

Hey Norton, try not to hate me too bad.   I just pulled about two dozen clean RVG Blue Notes and Prestige out of "your" Goodwill in Murrysville.   Lou Donaldson, Sonny Stitt, Clark Terry and perhaps most excitingly some names I never heard of.   I'll try to get a picture up tonight when I get home from work (I'm on call).

You were that close and couldnt stop by for tomatoes?  They're going fast.

That's probably some good stuff.   I was busy too.     I bought about 4 boxes of vinyl today that included about ten 50s/ 60s Miles titles (three early Kind of Blue's (one mono) and "Coltrane" on Impulse (mono)    Some decent 60s pop too.  "Animalization"- The Animals,  Beat Group! -The Hollies    Also a lot of early Dylan, including Another Side and Times are a-changing" in glorious mono!!

You guys in the south are off your game.   I got sent to Bethel Park to do an x-ray and waltzed right into HPB and picked up a $100 jazz record which had been marked at $20, then marked down to $10, so it must have been there for a while.   With the Labor Day sale I paid $8.

I've kinda given up on the HPB here. Last time they had everything marked at the highest "asking price" on discogs. Walked out empty handed. Some widow had brought in her husbands jazz albums and they were slowly dribbling them out. I was stopping by every week or two to see what whas new, but have since given up.

This was likely one of those.   I managed to separate the stickers.   It was $19.99, then $9.99.   I wish I had met that widow.   I'm sure I would have given her more than they did and would have been a better steward of the collection.

There are most likely a couple people who stop by there everyday and pick out the best new items so you'd have to be lucky if you're stopping a few times a month.  Lots of people chasing vinyl for fun and profit.   I went to an estate sale out in Ben Avon yesterday, got there a half hour before opening and three of the first four guys in line where vinyl guys.  I was about ten people behind them.  Started talking to the guy in front of me, who was a local living a couple blocks over and he was looking for vinyl too.
After the opening, it soon was discovered that there was no vinyl at the location.
So it goes.

Addendum:   I did purchase a nice lawnmower and a few exercise items.  So I was happy!

I'm sure it's not the case. Seems like the site has lost some of its appeal? It's not growing, and hasn't been the same since we lost part of the group to do their own thing. Don't associate with any of that group any longer, so not sure if they exist or not. If not, maybe we should find a way to invite them back?  Any thoughts on advertising this group on any other websites? Maybe Craigslist to keep it local?

If the highs were that forward and had that much sizzle, then something was wrong with those. They should never sound like that at all.

That's the thing though, the highs weren't particularly forward, just the sibilants.

Had a chance to visit this store this week while doing business in the area.

https://lancaster.craigslist.org/ele/d/sold-mcintosh-c26-preamp-and/6698051073.html

Very nice place.  I only had a few minutes and didn't get a chance to pick through the vinyl.  However, I did spy some nice vintage gear, including pristine MAC tube pieces (C-22, MR-71, Mc 240 and 275).  There were a number of very clean Marantz pieces, Carver stuff and more.  I wouldn't make a road trip out of it, but if you are in the greater Harrisburg/Lancaster area, it's well worth a visit.  I hope to carve out a bit more time the next time I am in the area.

I’ll be within 10’ at some point tonight. No one is living down there...yet. My wife still let’s me sleep in the house.

Trying to clean out the garage and I’m never going to use that radio again. I recall the power wire coming out of the harness on a previous install. I somehow jammed it back in and never had an issue. The iPod adapter allowed a 32 pin iPod to be plugged in and controlled via the headunit. Can’t recall if the cables are still there or if a lightning cable iPod can be used. Let me know if you need me to look.

Those stands are beautiful, but I always felt that if you are going to give up that much real estate for the stand's footprint, why not just get a small tower and have the bass benefits?   That said, those are really pretty.

I first heard one of these around 1970 and haven't seen one since.  My mother dropped me at a local Hi Fi store I had never been to while she went shopping (I wasn't yet driving).  It was being used to EQ a room with a Mac MC 2300 and a pair of ML 6 loudspeakers (four 12" woofers in each cabinet).  I remember it like I remember the day Kennedy was shot; of course I was blown away.   That was the day my audio cherry was broken and I became an audio geek and Mac freak.  It took about another 8 or 10 years before I could afford to buy any of the stuff and only a piece at a time.  Of course, I continue to drink Macs cool-aid.

I wouldn't buy this Eq today; it doesn't go down to 20hz (or even 25) and is a bit noisy.  From the standpoint of vintage gear, the price is not far from reasonable.

There is something special about the imaging from a point-source monitor floating on top of a stand,  IMO

Picked up about 40 LPs today at various estate sales and Goodwills.  Nothing earthshaking but some decent 70s fusion, if that's your thing and what I believe is a mint RL "moondog matinee".

Yesterday was box set Friday.  I picked up mosaic cd boxes of Django Reinhardt  and Max Roach Plus Four, Keith Jarrett at the Blue note complete, William Parker "centering", capt beefheart "grow fins" , piper at gates of dawn 3cd box, Ornette Coleman "Beauty is a Rare Thing" and Monks Casino (Intakt Records).
I should have a record show here and unload some of this vinyl soon.  My wife would be happy!!!!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend ..   As Rufus Thomas would say,  Time to walk the dog.

Doubtful I'll be out anywhere, we're having a pet issue and I'm expecting it's going to be expensive. If I do get out and see one I'll shoot you a call/text.

Sorry scorpio.   That sucks.

I got the Sheryl Crow Tuesday Night Music Club.   Sounds great other than a bit of underfill (presumably) on side 4.   I don't know how they can take $35 a give you a defective product.   The Attic was good about it, giving me another copy, but it had the same issue in the same spot, so maybe it's not underfill.   I don't know.   I also got the Big Star Small World comp.   I couldn't find the new Matthew Sweet locally, so I broke down and paid an eBay gouger.   Thanksfully it was only a $17 release so one flipper was "only" asking $30 shipped.

These guys are great. Starting 7am Monday, you can order leftover RSD releases. Only once or twice did I see them jack the prices and they were still cheaper than ebay. I've also tried to flip one or two RSD releases in the past, I've found the longer you wait the cheaper they get.

They have three or four each of the Dolphy and the Cannonball.   Two more records that I wish were in my budget.   They still had all three boxes that I was lusting after (Soul Asylum, Toad and Petty).   Pittsburgh is a great place for vinyl, but three digit boxes are a hard sell in this economy (as are almost three digit jazz albums).

Amoeba and a few others do this as well.   The Attic says on their website they take pre-orders.   Emp, I'd bet if you pay them over the phone for the Dolphy they would hold it for you until you can make it down.

Cool. I waited too long and the internet sold out of the Collective Soul. Oh well, it's not like it's a super must have.

Yeah, shelling out prices over standard and expecting the records to actually play.   The nerve.

I ordered two records to get free shipping...because spending another $19 to save $3 is the financially sound thing to do...anyhow, the records were coming from two different shops. One showed up yesterday while the other is 'lost' Greensburg instead of coming through Warrendale.

I like Aldi.   I'll try to stop at one or two of them tomorrow and see if I spot any.   Where did you hear this?   They do have a half aisle or so they use for "special buys", I think it's possible even if it does seem like an odd fit.

I would actually buy a Mariah Carey Merry Christmas at that price if I come across one.   My guess is that it's the 2015 red vinyl rather than the new snowflake white, but who knows.   Either way it's a bargain.

I just picked up the Mariah Carey at the Wexford Aldi.   They said they get their weekly buys in on Tuesdays.   The records were in with the Christmas toys there.   It is the earlier red vinyl issue as I expected.   All six albums are older modern issues, so they may come up at similar savings at other outlets like PopMarket, ImportCD, etc., or they may be blowing out the last of them there.   The Peal Jam Ten was the double album issue with the added "Redux" version.   The Foo Fighters GH was also a double album.   I was very tempted to buy all three.   I'm sure Hoffman forum has info in each pressing, but at least on it's face it looks like a great value.

I have an original press Pearl Jam Ten and the reissue. The original came from my friend's wife. She worked at Camelot and had Ten and Verses sealed in a closet for years. Slightly warped, but otherwise awesome. The reissue is great, got one for $10 at HPB 50% off, a decent deal at 17.99. I think I have the Foo Fighters, if I do it's in the wife's pile, not a big fan. Only one I was interested in is the Adele, I'll keep my eyes open next time I'm there.

Agree, definitely a bargain.  I've been watching them but can't justify another pair of speakers.  Would love to hear these things, though.  Would be interesting to know if they sound similar to the ADS generation that I've gotten to know.

I am helping a friend from DuBois thin out his 'collection'.  A pair of Sansuis and a pair of AR5s are on their way to Ho Chi Minh City.

I am surprised these lasted as long as they did but should be gone Monday.  They sound pretty nice but I plan to thin out my speaker collection next and don't want to add to it.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes.  Had a relatively stress free day.  Cold dog-playing session around 730, followed by breakfast at First Watch in Murrysville at 9.   At 11, a guy stopped and bought the Visoniks, then I dropped off EBay three packages at the post office.  Another guy stopped over around 3 for some weight equipment then we went to Outback for a dinner with our daughter.

They had a couple Govt Mule as well, but I don't know which of their albums are great and which are just catalog filler.   I get the impression that there is some of each to be had from them.   That's a rabbit hole I've avoided thus far, but I don't see how I can hold it off much longer when I am such a fan of Warren.   Are there one or two that you would cal stone cold classics, a cut above the rest of their output?

I would avoid recommending Dub Side of the Mule, Dark Side of the Mule, and Stoned side of the Mule. Dub side is interesting if you like reggae. The others are live versions of Floyd and the Stones. I suspect those are what they have in the clearance section. Jazz fans might like Sco Mule, a collaboration between John Scofield and GM. I'd say these are mostly filler.

As far as Gov't Mule studio albums...I love the trio version of the band on the first three albums - self titled, Dose, and Life Before Insanity. Dose is over $100, the other two are available on Music on Vinyl, both very well done. These are the more bass heavy, rockin albums.

Deja Voodoo adds a new bassist and keyboardist after Allen Woody's death, it's on MOV as well. The next two, are insane expensive - High and Mighty and Mighty High ($150-200 each).

another new bassist for By a Thread. Pretty sure you can find this one for $20 or less, likely their most mainstream release. Shout and Revolution Come...Revolution Go are ok, not what I would recommend for starters.

The Tel Star Sessions (released between Shout and Revolution) may be the single best one to own, it was recorded live in the studio as a demo. Raw and punchy.

Hard to pick just one or two out of the bunch, they've covered a lot of ground in almost 30 years. I think over the years Warren has got more refined and perhaps less raw.

It's a huge rabbit hole...there's more Warren solo and his work with the Allman Bros. Where it All Begins is where I first heard Warren and perhaps one of my overall favorite albums.

Yes, however that stylus is the lowest on the totem pole for that cart so it would t be a great loss. If it were an ED or minty HI Track, that would be a real shame.

I’ve got a few M95’s and like them. The ED stylus is the best bang for the buck, the SAS is slightly better but the cost now makes it a bit unrealistic.

For $6500, you don't even get a dust cover.

I wonder if they would let you swap the LEDs for a dust cover?

Hey I wear skinny jeans! :: )  Definitely not what'd i'd allot $6,500 toward in my stereo..  But, IMO, active speakers will become the norm (already have).  Since Mc is not a speaker company, they are finding a way to grab back a piece of the "consolidated stereo" market they're set to loose in the next 5 to 10 years.  Knowing that there's not going to sell as many dedicated amplifiers/preamps/etc as they did in the past.  Passives, dedicated amps/pre, cables, media are all ghosts in the eyes of a casual listener.  And that's what makes up the majority market, not us.  P.S i hate LED's on tubes

I don't get the impression that it's active speakers.   It looks to me like it's a 50 WPC amp in the turntable.   Like a really refined Soundesign compact stereo.

Sorry the skinny jeans comment, a friend of mine is rubbing off on me at times. I just don't see a huge market for something like that system. For $6500 I'd keep my TT and maybe go for some nice mono blocks.

I do wonder if you don't get a dustcover because of the tubes. Some putz will shut if off and put the cover on, then tube/transformer heat melts the damn thing. Think of how many candles destroyed dustcovers over the years.

If anyone is interested in the Tom Petty Vol 2 vinyl box including Wildflowers - Walmart of all places has it for $203.30 if you ship to store. The box usually goes for about $260. Wildflowers currently goes for about $350. I was lucky to get an original copy a few years back much lower than that. I've wanted the newer albums, so I bit on it. There has been some discussion the original Wildflowers was a digital to vinyl press and the box set version was pressed from analog tapes. I look forward to comparing them, I know the original is an amazing sounding record so if the box version is better I can't wait!

Should have been more clear on this..  I guess what i'm saying is the majority of stereo setups are going toward active speakers, and since Mc is not primarily a speaker company, they are finding a different route to the same destination.  A way to remain relevant and appeal to the consumer looking for a high quality consolidated setup.  Just my theory behind the release.

Mac is indeed also a speaker company and has been since the 1970's, it's just that not everyone knows it.  You can drop into six figures on Mc line source speakers.  Check Roger Russell's writings.  http://www.roger-russell.com/ (http://www.roger-russell.com/)

Using Mac XR-1051 in my vintage/ man cave system and they are perfect for the application. Very musical  and the vintage warmish sound is perfect for a very hard surface environment.

Or buying the dustcover. If it's a real Dual dustcover you're getting a table and plinth for free. Regarding the plinth, it's for 10" platter sized models, 12" platter models won't fit that plinth.

The 1214 isn't anything special, but it does play 78's if you're into that.

An old timer like me remembers finding Jim's, in what I think was the original smaller location, several storefronts down the street, and ordering a copy of "white man in hammersmith palais".  Jim moved up the street and his store seemed like to go-to stop for visiting musicians playing the nearby and now defunct Graffiti. I got Robyn Hitchcock to sign a copy of 'Element of Light' back I the late 80s.   I dropped in during lunch break from my job at West Penn Hospital quite a bit in the early 90s.  Then the next thing I hear he had moved up to Ithaca with the woman from the Warhol and sold the store to Paul.

I thought about them many times. But I set my limit, bid it and see what happens. Whether you bid manually or via snipping tool each has a max bid.  Bid your highest and hope you win. I understand no one wants to bid early for fear of artificially inflating the price but the robo bidders seem to defeat that purpose...at least in my experiences.

I have used eSnipe for years.  Set you max bid and you are done.  The best success has been with just putting a low ball max bid.  I have been surprised when I win with a low bid.  It happens!

At our get together this summer MacGeek gave me a non working Yamaha K1020 cassette deck. With my back / leg issues I was unable to work on it until now. New belts, new donut on the idler wheel, and lots of DeoxIT and it's finally playing along.  It's a great sounding 3 head deck, much better than the Denon mid grade two head I'd had in the system a while back. Fun to play all my cassettes again! I just wish I'd had a better deck when I recorded them (a 2 head Akai I think) and many are recorded from CDs "borrowed" from the library lol  Most of the tapes are TDK SA or Maxell metal, well saturated signal and do not have any noise reduction,  so they are not really too bad. The car cassette deck I had back then did not have dolby but was suppose to have heads OK for metal lol   Fun

Hey Jim,

I am glad you got it working-I just didn't have time.  Mine is acting up, but probably just needs a dose of TLC, hopefully not as extensive as yours.  They are great decks and can rival some NAKS, depending on tape type and model.
