Title: What tickets are in your pocket?
Post by: Vpgh on May 22, 2019, 09:00:48 PM
I'm pretty sure that most of us love music, not just an equipment. However, you have to listen a live performance to understand how the music should sounds at your lovely setup.
As my wife and me love classic music and also for 50 years jubilee of Placido Domingo @MET, we decided to get tickets for La Traviata last month.

My tickets are on my phone, but I have a pair for the Outlaw Music Festival.   I didn't know there were any other opera lovers here.   A hundred years ago I was an opera major at Boston Conservatory.

You right Mark, there are no many opera lovers, however, a lot of different concerts have place in Pittsburgh. At least some Jazz and Rock concerts coming soon.
For Jazz you might check https://pittsburghjazzfest.org/schedule/ (https://pittsburghjazzfest.org/schedule/)

Mighty mighty bosstones

I saw them when they first formed.   I got invited to a mixer at Emerson College in 1984 and they were the band that played the party.   Even then they were well above average.   Dug the band, struck out with the co-eds.

No tix here, we may take a trip to Denver this summer. If so, I'll be hitting Red Rocks. Other than that, I'll pretend by playing some live records.

Shortly after 10am tomorrow I'll have tix for Gov't Mule at Red Rocks Aug 18. This is a bucket list show, I need to make sure not to get hit by a bus before then. Glad we dragged our feet and waited to book this trip.

We were in Montreal last summer for 4-5 days. What a great city!   If you're going to spend a few days there I do have some recommendations of things to do/ see and place to stay etc. If you're interested, send me a PM. I'd be glad to share.

Thanks for your kind offer, but I used to live in Montreal until I moved to Ottawa only
about 2 hrs away.
I visit Montreal 4 or 5 times a year.

I think we should start a thread called "Free concert tomorrow night within driving distance", as this would have been a road trip for my wife and I had we known yesterday.

I literally don't even know what that is.   Based on the picture I'm wondering why they are selling tickets to see an itinerant farmer.

Rage Against the Machine. PPG Arena. July 31st. Just announced so no tix yet, but I'm not passing this one up. They're not for everyone, but I've been a fan of Rage, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage.

Keep your eyes open.   That show at that price looks like a prime candidate for one of those late blowout sales.

Likely, not sure they have the drawing power to sell out. Meanwhile on the other end of town, a crew of rapidly aging seniors is demanding $166.50 and up, not that I have any interest. Then there's the extortion fee they add on top of the ticket. Perhaps my principles are starting to catch up with my age.

I've never seen The Stones and would like to even though as a rule I prefer seeing someone in their prime as opposed to catching a Dinosaur Act.   The upcoming concert I am most excited about is Jason Isbell.   I'm hoping he doesn't sell out before the tax refund hits.

My wife's best friend is a big James Taylor fan so we bought two tickets for her and two for us for the summer JT show with Jackson Browne show.  Truthfully ive seen them both enough already but should be fun.  Last JT show I took a guitar/songbook with me to the show and he autographed it during the intermission.

You're right about the 20% service charge.   I guess obscenity is back in style these days.

Saw the Stones a few times, granted in the 90's. If I pass on the Stones and Rage then my math tells me I can pay up to $300 for Isbell and break even.

Like I tell my bookie, "I hope I break even.  I need the money."

But if you're doing math that way, let me refer you to a good tax man!!!

I created a fabulous, new method of accounting on my first accounting exam in college. I was a natural book cooker.

Went to the Sturgill show last night. Like some other reviews out there, it was a WEIRD night.

Firstly, Tyler Childers was great. He's country, but not a paint by numbers, mass produced FM pop country. I know country gets a bad rap and the mere mention of it immediately turns people off, but I like it if it has substance and musical depth. They nailed it. The 10 minute plus version of House Fire was great and a highlight of the show for me.

On to Sturgill. This may be the Led Zeppelin III stage of his career. His first three albums were more country than anything, then came Sound and Fury, a big turn away from anything he's done. I've got friends who are country fans first and they were disappointed in the show. Many other fans in attendance must have been in that same boat as 30-40 minutes into his set the exodus to the doors started. I'd say at least half the crowd left. It was eerily "quiet", no buzz from the crowd. Likely those that left were Tyler fans or "country" Sturgill fans, or a bit of both. Anyhow, Sturgill used to have an Estonian guitar player who really knew his stuff. Since his departure I thought they'd strip the live show down or add a new guitarist. Neither, Sturgill is very proficient and shredded a Les Paul and Strat all night. Sound and Fury was the main focus and if you could get past his bare chest and huge gold chain it was a great set.

As for Peterson Center, it was my first show there and I'll be happy if I never go back. Ever. Traffic in and out was expected and didn't disappoint. The venue is huge inside and NOT designed for music, despite the huge clothe hammocks on the ceiling the sound just bounces off everything. My seats were 4 rows down from the top straight in back, easily a 1/4 mile from the stage. I don't like big, non musical venues and this one in my opinion sucks. I fear the venue out at Robert Morris will be the same, but without the traffic.
