So far I've been most impressed by the tube cd player... not sure what the model is, but it sounds awesome :D
I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

Carver made two tube cd players.  The single cd SD/A 490t and the 5 disk changer SD/A 390t.  Both are very good sounding.  I have the 490t.

Best Carver amp I have ever heard was the tube Silver 9.
Got Carver?

I lusted after the Phase Linear 400 in my college years and now, years later, I bought and still have it. Nothing spells 70's power like the Phase Linears. The big meters are intimidating....intimidating and impressive!! I took it to the last Carverfest and had the pleasure of  Mr. Carver wanting to hear it in our cabin system. As I sat beside him and we listened to music on the system, he told me how he was just a kid when he designed the amp, and that despite all the amps he has made, he did not think he improved much over the original Phase Linear for sound quality. Thats pretty impressive in my book considering the other equipment he has built and  listened to. I don't have it in my current system (TFM-55), but the autographed Phase Linear and the memory of that experience are enough to last me as far as Carver equipment goes. Yep...you could say it's my favorite.

yea Tom... the interesting thing was it stayed hooked up for the rest of that night until the next before it was removed. Apparently, it earned alot of respect from the rest of the group. Not bad for an amp made in 1973 and a solid state one in a room of tube lovers.

I have found out that Bob's stuff stands up very well to tube gear!  That man can design great amps!
