Salutations from SWPA
« on: December 30, 2013, 03:36:36 PM »
Hiya Folks,

I joined up here at the suggestion of a gentleman I met yesterday -8wattsoffury- when I picked up some old Klipschs off of him.

Long time lover of music of most varieties, primarily focused on rock, blues and jazz but enjoy most things short of obscene and/or modern country.  I've been theoretically interested in putting together a decent 'hifi' system for ages but I never quite got around to pursuing it with life and funds being so harried over the years.
I've finally begun the process after inheriting several hundred albums from a dear departed uncle...  essentially my first vinyl!  Though I recently turned 40, I never had a record player as a young/younger man... started on cassette tapes and happily moved right over into CDs.  Got myself a nice turntable, decided I didn't like the el cheapo phono preamp I bought as my trusty old Adcom pre-amp didn't have an input... and the slippery slope has been broached, lol.  That being said, I figured high quality older gear is out there just waiting for folks to search them out and enjoy them again... and here I am!  I'll be looking to you old hands for advice and knowledge as I get up to speed.

Cheers
Tom

I'm very sorry that you had to deal with 8WOF, he does not play well with others.  He bites.  :P

Welcome Tom!

About 1/2 of what 8WoF says is true, figuring out which 1/2 is the challenge.   >:D

Hi Tom!  Let us know what you think you the Klipsch's.  Please write a review in the "List Your System" part of the board.  Always interested to know what you mate the speakers with etc.  Are you a vinyl, tape, CD, or digital music listener?  or all of the above?

Welcome,

Pepe

Nice to meet you and enjoy the Klipsches.   Don't let the haters get you down.

Thank you all for the warm reception!

Not too worried about the Klipsch haters, I'm aware they're abound.  They are such a startling giant step forward and complete departure from my old speakers as to make me a lover for the time being.  I do hope to try some different flavors in the future though.

After 8WoF's reaction to them, I'm more afraid of what y'all'd think of the speakers they replace...  that I was fairly happy with for years!

Greetings Pepe,

I really like the Klipsches thus far, vastly more dynamic and 'musical' than my old BAs.  I feel at this juncture, given my rather limited personal database of experience that a review may be more 'gushing without reference' than I'd want to post... for now.
I am mainly a CD listener at this juncture, but I'm planning on grabbing and listening to more vinyl now that I have a TT.  Some digital, but that's mainly for iPod and car currently; most of my digital is at 256.  Cassettes?  Burnt 'em all as quick as I could when I moved into CDs many years ago, lol.

Cheers
Tom
