Sarah Mclachlan's live cd is great. Not sure what it's titled, but the recording is awesome. Great clarity and very deep, clean bass.
king-edwin,

Thank you for bringing up Sarah McLachans live CD. I had no idea she produced one. I'll definitely have to get that.

I absolutely her "Surfacing" CD. What a phenomenal recording with that deep deep clean hard hitting bass. WOW !

Thank You Again For Suggesting king-edwin.--------BILL

All that talk about recording techniques reminds of another favorite of mine.

On GRP, Dave Gruisin and The New York/LA Dream Band Live from Tokyo.  A great recording, ok music.  The venue was so large they had to digitally compensate for the crowds handclaps being out of sync with the music, and the only time a musicians mike was turned on was when he was playing.  The latter makes for 1 of the quietest live recordings I have ever heard!

Falcon, let me know when you will be back in the area, you know how much I like show off my stuff.

Not sure if any of guy's are fans of her music or not, but Carly Simons Greatest Hits "Live From Martha's Vineyard" CD. is also very well done.

Yep everyone of these sound very good. But like my dad my favorite that I heard is Davis Gilmour Live in Gdansk.

Did Steely Dan ever put out a live record? I guess I could just look it up on google ::) but that wouldn't be as fun...
I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

WOW!  I dont recall ever hearing of that steely dan album.  Must be pretty new, especially since thay only did a single tour in the 70's, and did not start touring again until the 90's (saw the 70's tour at the Civic Arena).  By the way, anyone remember where the bands name comes from (pun intended).  How about Jefferson Airplanes name?

You old guys need some variety...

The Roots:  Come Alive
Its hip hop.  There are no turntables, no digital music and they all play their own instruments.  Best live album since 2000.

Jay-Z:  Unplugged
Not a big fan of Jay-Z, but the Roots play all the music.

Lyrics Born:  Overnight Encore
Great house party album, funky and high energy.

MF Doom:  Live From Planet X
Again hip hop, better if you know his music. 1 track 40 minute nonstop set.

Ministry:  In Case You Didnt Feel Like Showing Up
Industrial, one of my favorites growing up.

Portishead:  Roseland NYC Live
You really should own this one.  Sexy female lead vocals, trip hop beats, turntables and about 30 members of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
