I'm not really a jazz guy, but...
« on: March 26, 2016, 10:47:55 PM »
this score could convert me. I was first to answer a Freecycle listing for "old jazz records". I think the fact that he was in Duquesne may have scared some people off.   It took two weeks to hook up, but when I got to the guy's house, he presented me with a booklet listing title, label, cat no, and price for each record. Only the price column had entries in just the first few lines. He explained that he was going to sell them years ago, but found the task too daunting. There were 16 boxes, each with 10-12 records in them.

I got home and started cracking them open. Ten boxes of keepers, six to SVDeP. One box of rock, soul stuff that I'm pretty excited about (NM Al Green on Hi, still in shrink), but the star of the show is jazz, mostly in really good condition.

Several DG Bill Evans Trio on Riverside, several 6 eye Miles, tons of Verve and Blue Note albums. I've got a lot of listening to do!

Great score.  Can't have too much Bill Evans.....

I've been listening to a lot of jazz lately.  Just bought the Clifford Brown/Art Blakey Mosiac box.

Still plowing through these.   I have a bad cold so I spent the night listening...

Charlie Byrd at The Village Vanguard
Teddy Edwards & Howard McGhee - Together Again
Ray Brown All Star Big Band (w/Cannonball)
Max Roach +4

I started the night with Horace Parlan - Speakin' My Piece

A very fine listen, but a very pricey record. I'll have a hard time not flipping it.

The early Blue  Notes should sound great.  Shoot me a list if you have time.  The puppy is a big fan of the Rudy van Gelder sound.....
