Cerwin Vegass
« on: February 02, 2010, 02:34:30 PM »
Can someone explain the appeal of these?  They are always priced way more then what they were sold for 20 years ago, every ad on CL notes "banging bass yo", and the one pair I heard sounded like monkey ass.

High efficiency. Good power handling. Very boomy bass. To those that could care less about sound quality and don't care if they are deaf by 40, these are extremely appealing speakers.
I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

Great for party's, for the near deaf folk's. ;D Better than most Blose speaker's. Other than that I can think of nothing good about them  ::)
They did make some pretty good speakers many year's ago, the H.E.D. series were good sounding. IMO

I agree to RevAmish. I have not heard a pair of Cerwin Vegas and liked them.

Never heard any, but if they sound good loud, I'd probably like them. Just leave off the boomy bass!  ;D  :P  ;D

That's just it though.  With the volume up loud, all you can hear is the boomy bass.  CVs are like cheap subwoofers w/ a tweeter thrown in just for fun.

I'm not a fan.

Had a pair of D7s for a while.  I thought they actually sounded pretty good on rock-n-roll.  But not good enough to keep. Sold them to an appreciative fellow that was recreating his stereo system from the 70s.

Douse with gasoline, strike match, stand back and enjoy the bonfire.

Lots of sloppy base.  Good for frat partys or like F1 said...Good for a bond fire.
