In praise of an unknown engineer
« on: December 23, 2018, 10:37:54 PM »
I just got a UK orange Highway 61 Revisited and IMHO it crushes the Columbia Two-Eye that had been my go-to copy (both stereo). Usually I assume the country of origin should give the best sounding pressing as they (presumably) have access to the earliest generation tape. However, in the three instances I have had to compare a UK orange to Two-Eye (this, Abraxas, and It's a Beautiful Day), I have found the UK to sound significantly better. I don't know who was cutting for them at the time, but he/she did wonderful work.
