I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

Head East - LIVE.  (Like it much better than any of their studio stuff - better tempo and smoother sounding - if you can believe that for a live recording!)  On vinyl BTW. 8)
